With Neil and Jaren from The Cadillac Three

With Kelby from The Cadillac Three

So i managed to squeeze in that little trip to The Live Rooms in Chester on Friday night. So, so, so glad i did! First impressions of the venue were enough to make me even more excited for the show. The place was tiny and sadly not that busy either. I say sadly... but this meant we got an intimate performance from an amazing band and we had a prime spec to witness the show. This is great for us but such a shame for the shape of the British music scene. The masses don't generally love what i love. I really don't belong here and it's becoming even more clear to me every day. I imagine the rooms these guys play to every night back home in Nashville and wonder what they think when they're here. The difference is probably not even worth comparing. I'd love to be surrounded by like-minded people who enjoy real music. I'm aware I probably sound like such a music snob but this is my blog so my opinion is going to be expressed. Sorry, not sorry....... :)

Anyways back to the gig. I don't even really know how to talk about it, i think i'm still a little bit shocked at how utterly great they were/are and how so many people are missing out by not knowing them or having the sheer pleasure of seeing them live. I was lucky in a sense, i suppose. Normally, i'll get into a band and realise i've just missed them play or they're not touring at the time. With The Cadillac Three, the timing couldn't have been better. It was only last week when i got their album and honestly it's basically all i've listened to since. In the car, at home, while getting ready....Literally i've been so engrossed in it that i've pretty much neglected Blackberry Smoke, who i'm going to see tonight (still majorly excited!!!!). From start to finish Tennessee Mojo is just that. An embodiment of the sound of Nashville. Southern rock and country. Music to my ears. Hearing it played live was also just that. The only down side was that the set was too short. I wanted more and more. The only draw back of a supporting slot (The Graveltones were headliners). It was raw, authentic and fueled by Jack Daniels. (Jaren even smashed a bottle with a drumstick while using it as a drum) So rock 'n' roll......

We even managed to meet the guys briefly afterwards, snag some autographs and photos. They were all lovely but we had more conversation with Kelby. He was great and hopefully we'll get to see them again soon, preferably in Liverpool this time. He did say he'd visited briefly before but would love to come back and play a show. I'll hold him to that.

In the mean time i'll be continuing to enjoy their album, look forward to their appearance on Nashville (the tv show) and eagerly anticipate more.

I had to capture a little bit of the magic, so here's a video shot on my trusty iPhone of the ballad of the night - White Lightning. Enjoy!
