Boudoir Bliss: Decor Inspiration

Wednesday, 26 November 2014

My entire apartment has had a makeover in the past few weeks and I'm so excited to finally have an updated personal space. A girl's bedroom should always reflect her personality, so it was clear mine had to involve my two favourite colours; Black & White. A mimimalist monochrome look, with a gothic glam twist was exactly what I was going for. So to get some ideas I headed over to Pinterest, the perfect place for style inspiration. I thought I'd share some of my favourite pictures, which definitely helped in my quest for boudoir bliss.

My room is almost finished now and I'm in love with it. I'm 25 next week and I thought it was about time my room looked like it belonged to a mid 20-something. I'd say I've definitely succeeded and I'll be sure to share some photos when it's fully finished. It feels great to have a room I adore just in time for my birthday and Christmas. An early present to kick off my favourite time of year. Let Party Season commence.

(If only I could have Rob too....he'd be the best present, just sayin')

Discovering Brooklyn: MOTHXR

Monday, 17 November 2014

I miss New York.
I miss Williamsburg.
I want to go back and explore more of Brooklyn.
Speaking of Brooklyn, I've recently discovered a new band from there who just so happen to have Penn Badgley as their frontman (Gossip Girl's Dan Humphrey). MOTHXR have caught me completely by surprise. From first listen, I instantly loved their sound and I've had 'Easy and 'Stranger' on repeat.

Their experimental, psychedelic indie vibe definitely has me yearning for New York. I want to vintage shop; coffee sip, bar hop and gig go!
I'd love to catch MOTHXR at one of their home shows, in a tiny dive bar somewhere in Brooklyn. There's nothing better than seeing a band live. Unfortunately, I've just missed my chance to see them over here in England. They played Manchester back in September. Just my luck....

I'm rather choosy with the indie genre. There's a lot of bands I wouldn't give the time of day but there's something about MOTHXR that's intriguing and I'm looking forward to hearing more.

In a recent interview with MTV, bass player and producer Jimmy Giannopoulos said something that made me stop what I was reading and think 'what?, they're definitely not in the same league'.

He said "We want everyone to look at us the way the UK looked at Iron Maiden, Joy Division, Small Faces, T-Rex, Zombies, Clash. They are really cool bands. Bands where you can feel the vibe, and you can feel that band."

Penn backed it up with "They were doing what they were doing. They were less concerned with what people wanted to hear and making a sound they wanted to make."

In a way I suppose that's the essence of rock 'n' roll and I applaud any band that just wants to be themselves regardless of any opinion. Whether people (myself included) end up seeing them in the same way as the bands mentioned above, is just a matter of time. They've made a bold statement, one I admire. Now they just have to follow through.

Duster Days: the maxi shirt

Danka Daisy Print Maxi Shirt - missguided.co.uk
I'm a huge lover of the kimono, so it was only obvious that I was going to love dusters just as much. As we're well into the Fall season and it's starting to get colder out, I'm really starting to want to layer on the black and layer up. This daisy print maxi duster shirt from Miss Guided really caught my eye as soon as I saw it. The 90s grunge trend is still going strong even though it never really leaves me. ( I'm a 90s child, Buffy is always an inspiration)  I just knew that this piece would be so easy to style. Last night I teamed it up with an all black palette of a plain tee, skinny jeans, silver jewels and biker boots. Last but not least, I threw on my favourite trusty vintage studded leather jacket to bundle up against the chill.
I've been browsing the net looking for others to add to my wardrobe and here's a few that I've found. Particularly fond of the flannel, Gypsy Warrior always manages to tempt me....

Now, the duster comes in a variety of styles, whether they be in coat, dress or shirt form, they're great for adding that little something extra to an outfit. I love how the celebs are wearing the trend.

The Olsens never fail to look effortlessly chic in an all black ensemble.
The newly in the spotlight, FKA twigs isn't afraid to be daring and she's forever showcasing how to rock a maxi both on and off stage.
As we continue to go into the Winter season, i'll be breaking out my vintage Moschino duster style coat. Purchased last Spring, of course it was too warm to wear it. This Winter however, no doubt it'll be a staple go-to piece.

Faux Fur: Leopard Love

Sunday, 2 November 2014

If there's ever an item that I look forward to dragging out of hibernation each year, it's my faux fur leopard print coat. I adore how throwing this piece on over layers of black immediately makes me feel. It's effortless chic, while being incredibly versatile and an ideal option for keeping warm on those colder Fall days. I know I'll be wearing it throughout the season and it'll remain a fixture in my Winter wardrobe  too. Today, it was the perfect choice for going out for Sunday Brunch, grabbing an iced coffee and doing some shopping. Day or night, it'll never let me down.

Here's some inspiration from some of my favourite style icons rocking the Leopard print look.

I've had my coat for ages, I can't remember exactly where I bought it from but it has 'Vintage Boutique' on the label. I know I didn't spend a lot and it's definitely had it's wear over the years. However, as much as I love mine, I'm still tempted to purchase another. If I find the perfect one, I can't promise that I will be able to resist...
